Super Eagles midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi is looking forward to play in his maiden World Cup and he’s confident the team would not disappoint in Brazil.
“We have Iran, Bosnia and Argentina to play in that order. You don’t come to the best tournament in the world with any less expectation than to square up against the best. All the qualified teams will come in with their reputations; this is a pool of the best 32 teams in the world.”
“This is some sort of confidence for us. We know we are the African champions and we know we have to work hard. By the Grace of God we know we can go all the way.”
“The World Cup is the biggest football tournament. This is my first time, although I played in the U-17 World Cup, this is obviously going to be a different experience. I want to make the best of it.”
He also commented on what he makes of his team and evaluated his expected performance.
“We have a pool of young, hungry and talented group of players. We all know we still have to make the list of 23 first, and you can see the hunger. Cap that off with the experience of our Coach in these stage. We are working to get the best out of ourselves. “
“I try to do what I have to do. Don’t forget football is my profession. I get into the pitch like a surgeon gets into the theater; focused, hungry, hopeful and positive. It has been down to the Grace of God in my life.”
With the side having an envious 12th man travelling party, the lazio-based player lauded their efforts.
“As a Nigerian footballer, I can beat my chest and say I know we will get the very best support from the fans. We all love this game. We are also fans as well. I’d say to the fans: drum up the support, The Super Eagles are coming.”
