Ex Ghana star Malik Jabir has kicked against suggestions to have more ‘experienced’ players instead of the youthful ones in the Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup .
Coach Kwesi Appiah will be naming his provisional squad for June’s tournament in Brazil at an organized press conference this afternoon.
Appiah’s squad announcement has however been preceded my numerous suggestions over the type of players to be selected for the tournament.
Ex Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour says the Black Stars needs the likes of John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah to provide ‘leadership’ in the team despite not playing for their clubs due to injury.
But Malik Jabir, who once coached the national team believes the issue of having a lot of ‘experienced’ players in the Black Stars squad is being overrated.
“People are just talking, what will be the use of having experience without having the physique or youthful players who can run for 90 minutes?” he told Radio Gold.
“Kwesi Appiah has been using his head and I expect him to continue using his head.”
The Black Stars team will travel to Holland on May 25 to begin preparations towards their third successive appearance at the finals in Brazil.
Ghana is drawn in a tough group alongside Germany , Portugal and the USA.
